Built For Agents: Company Sales Data for Researchers and AI Agents

Some questions need a year of data on one company, not a subscription to four hundred. Did a price rise cost a brand owner volume? How did a company's sales move in the weeks before its last earnings report? Is a backtest worth building at all?

From today, Odyssey Lite company data can be bought one request at a time at api.decadata.io. There is no account to open, no contract to sign and no API key to manage. You ask for the data, the API tells you the price, you pay, and the data comes back in the same call.

What you get

  • Weekly sales and units for about 380 consumer companies, and daily for the 134 largest, identified by ISIN, or by ticker where the company has one.
  • History from 1 January 2018, the first day all eight retailers are in the panel, for every company whose data goes back that far. Coverage shows where each company's data starts.
  • Eight US retailers, measured from point-of-sale transactions and mapped to the company that owned each brand at the time. History is never restated: when a brand changes hands, its past sales stay with the owner of the time.
  • Data from T+7: a day goes on sale seven days after it happens, once every retailer has reported, so every day you buy is complete. Christmas Day, when the stores are closed, has no data.
  • The panel's store count on every row: the panel changes size over time, so divide sales by it before comparing periods.

Coverage lists every company on sale and how far its data runs. The sample returns the first quarter of 2019, so you can judge the data before paying for any. The quote tells you exactly what a request will cost.

Paying per request

The API uses x402, the open standard for paying over HTTP. Ask for data without paying and the API answers 402 Payment Required, with the price. Your client signs a payment in USDC on Base and repeats the request; the payment is checked, the data is read, and only then is the payment collected. One payment buys one response, and every response carries a receipt and its license: the data is for your own research, not for redistribution or resale, and each response carries a mark that identifies the purchase.

That makes the API usable by software as well as people. An AI agent with a wallet and an x402 client library (available for JavaScript and Python) can find the data it needs, check the price and buy it without anyone setting up an account for it.

One request covers up to three years, and one wallet can buy up to 50 different companies in 30 days.

Prices

Prices depend on the company's size in the panel and on how recent the data is. The latest 90 days are priced as live; anything older is history.

Company tierFrequencyLive (latest 90 days)History (per company-month)
Tier 1, the largestdaily or weekly$5.00 per company-day$15 per company-month
Tier 2daily or weekly$1.50 per company-day$4 per company-month
Tier 3weekly only$10 per company-month$1 per company-month

A year of daily history for a large company costs about $180. The minimum charge is $1 per request.

When a subscription makes more sense

The API sells company totals from T+7. An Odyssey Lite subscription covers every company and every brand, from T+3 (all eight retailers by T+5), with the full history in bulk. If you find yourself following more than a handful of companies, or you need brands or speed, talk to us: what you've spent on the API counts towards a subscription.
